Item Description

In 2013, The Royal Mint issued a Twenty Pound coin for the very first time. Struck in 0.999 fine silver, it features a classic design synonymous with the gold sovereign - St George and the Dragon. Designed by Benedetto Pistrucci, Saint George and the Dragon first appeared on British coinage on the 1817 sovereign and it fitting that it's the first reverse engraving on the silver £20 coin. It coincides with the birth of Prince William's first child, Prince George, which is likely another factor in the decision to use Pistrucci's coin engraving. On the other side of the coin, the obverse, you'll see the fourth UK coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. To highlight the coin to collectors, it's struck twice to give a Brilliant Uncirculated finish and it's issued in an attractive presentation pack from The Royal Mint. It contains just over half a troy ounce of pure silver (15.69 grams) and measures 27.00 millimetres in diameter, which is a slightly smaller diameter compared to a double sovereign. This coin is from a limited edition issue of 250,000 and makes the perfect gift idea for any UK coin collector.
