When the unit is plugged in you will see a red power light to indicate that the heating element is switched on. The adjacent, green indicator light will come on when the toaster is at optimum temperature for cooking. Once you have your sandwich in place, you can clamp down the lid and lock it in to place easily. This ensures the food is thoroughly cooked through and seals the edges for less mess! The non-stick surface makes it easy to remove toasted sandwiches and makes it much easier to clean!
