Item Description

An 1899 full sovereign with the "old head" design was minted in London and features Queen Victoria's final portrait. The value depends on its condition and current gold prices, but it is primarily valued for its gold content. Coin details Obverse (front): The coin features the "Old Head" or "Veiled Head" portrait of Queen Victoria, designed by Thomas Brock. The sculptor's initials, 'T.B.', are located at the bottom of the portrait. Reverse (back): The reverse displays the classic St. George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci. Mint mark: This coin was struck at the Royal Mint in London, which is indicated by the absence of a mint mark. In 1899, sovereigns were also minted in Sydney ('S'), Melbourne ('M'), and Perth ('P'), and those coins bear their respective mint marks. Composition: The coin is made from 22-carat gold (91.67% gold). Weight and gold content: The total weight is 7.98 grams, with a pure gold content of 7.3224 grams (0.2354 troy ounces).
