The Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) is a popular, compact, and lightweight fast-aperture standard zoom lens designed exclusively for APS-C (Di II) DSLRs. Renowned for offering excellent sharpness at f/2.8, it provides a 17-50mm focal range, internal focusing, and high-quality build for a wide range of photography. Key Features and Description Constant Aperture: A maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, making it ideal for low-light conditions and creating smooth bokeh. Optical Construction: Features 16 elements in 13 groups, including Specialised Glass (XR), Low Dispersion (LD) glass, and hybrid Aspherical elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions. Optics & Performance: It is known for having very good resolution, particularly in the center of the image, even at wide-open apertures. Internal Focusing (IF): Focusing is internal, so the front element does not rotate, making it easy to use polarizing filters. Compact & Lightweight: The lens is compact for a fast zoom, often cited for its good, lightweight build quality, making it a great walk-around lens. Autofocus: Uses a conventional gear train motor (non-ultrasonic) which is often described as quite loud and audible during operation.
