The Korg N5/N5EX is a 61-key performance synthesizer (released late 1990s) utilizing AI2 synthesis, offering 64-voice polyphony, 32-part multitimbrality, and 12MB of ROM. It features over 1,000 Programs, 300+ Combinations, 4-part multi-effects, a built-in arpeggiator, and 4 real-time control knobs. The N5EX expanded version includes enhanced piano samples. Key Specs Keyboard: 61 note, velocity-sensitive, monophonic pressure/aftertouch-sensitive (synth action). Polyphony: 64-note polyphony. Sound Engine: AI2 Synthesis System. ROM Samples: 12MB, 527 instrument samples, 285 drum/percussion samples. Memory: 1169+ preset programs, 302+ combinations, 100 user program/combination memories. Effects: 4-part multi-effects (2 processors), 48 effect types. Controls: 4 Real-time control knobs, Pitch/Modulation wheels. Arpeggiator: 20 types (40-240 BPM). MIDI/Connectivity: MIDI In/Out/Thru, Mac/PC Computer interface, Output L/MONO, R, Headphones, Damper Pedal, Assignable Switch/Pedal. Compatibility: General MIDI (GM), GS, XG, 05R/W emulation mode. Power: External PSU. The N5 was often marketed for its "Korg sound" lineage leading toward the Triton series, featuring a distinctive purple or dark aesthetic.
