Item Description
The Evolution U-Control UC-33 (later rebadged as the M-Audio UC-33e) is a classic, highly regarded hardware DAW Controller. Released in the early 2000s, it became a staple layout for electronic music producers, DJs, and live performers due to its massive array of tactile controls in a compact form factor .While its all-plastic construction feels somewhat dated and cheap by modern standards, it remains a beloved "dinosaur" in the MIDI world because it is exceptionally easy to map and highly functional. Key Hardware & Specifications: 9 Faders: 60mm ALPS faders, ideal for multi-channel mixing or organ drawbar emulation. 24 Rotary Knobs: Divided into three rows of eight, perfect for a standard 3-band EQ + aux send layout. 14 Assignable Buttons: Positioned underneath the faders and screen for transport controls or track mutes. LCD Display: A custom blue backlit screen that displays active controller data, CC values, and settings. Connectivity: Powered directly via a USB port or a 9V DC external power supply. It features dedicated 5-pin MIDI In and MIDI Out DIN ports, allowing it to function as a standalone hardware controller without a computer. Standout Features & Control Capabilities: 33 Memory Presets: Includes 33 non-volatile memory slots. It comes pre-programmed with factory presets for legacy software like Propellerhead Reason, Ableton Live, Cubase, and Native Instruments synths. Polycarbonate Overlays: The controller originally shipped with five interchangeable plastic overlays. These sheets fit snugly over the knobs and faders, offering pre-printed text for specific synths (like the NI B4 and Pro-53) or a blank wipe-clean surface for custom layouts. Advanced MIDI Data: Beyond standard MIDI CCs, the UC-33 can transmit SysEx messages, RPNs/NRPNs, MMC (MIDI Machine Control), and Program Changes. Drawbar Mode: Faders can be instantly reversed using a global setting, allowing them to behave like traditional organ drawbars.
