The 2016 Sovereign is a British 22-carat gold coin produced by The Royal Mint, primarily for investment and collection. It is notable for featuring two different obverse portraits of Queen Elizabeth II to mark her 90th birthday year. Key Details Metal: 22-carat gold (91.67% fineness). Weight: 7.98 grams total weight, containing 7.32 grams (0.2354 troy ounces) of pure gold. Diameter: 22.05 mm. Reverse Design: Features the timeless St. George slaying the dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci. Obverse Designs: Bullion Coins: Feature the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark. Proof/Special Edition Coins: Feature a special, one-year-only commemorative portrait by James Butler MBE RA to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.
