The Apple Air Pods Max come bundled with a matching Smart Case. Unlike typical charging cases for in-ear Air Pods, this case does not charge the headphones; instead, its main function is to trigger an ultra-low-power state via built-in magnets to preserve the battery when they aren't being used. How the Smart Case Works Because the Air Pods Max do not have a physical power button, the Smart Case plays a vital role in managing the battery: Power Saving: Slipping the headphones into the Smart Case immediately puts them into a deep sleep mode to prevent phantom battery drain. Disconnection: Magnet triggers inside the case signal the headphones to disconnect from your iPhone, Mac, or iPad. Design Limitations: Keep in mind that the included Smart Case only covers the earcups. It leaves the mesh headband exposed, which leads many users to buy secondary, third-party travel hard cases for complete protection.
