Item Description
Samsung are releasing a new set of Galaxy S phones, and the 2024 series is one of the most distinct and exciting ones in recent memory. Each model targets a different audience with fewer spec overlaps than before, meaning there are no wrong choices. The beefiest, most future-proof of this fresh lineup is the S24 Ultra, arriving in a heavier, sharper-edged form factor before, ditching the curved display of the S23 Ultra from the previous year. The dimensions of the chassis are now 162.3 x 79 x 8.6 mm with 233g of weight. The Corning Gorilla Glass Armor protects the front. This is said to be four times tougher than your average phone cover, but also cuts back reflections by around 75% and is only available on the S24 Ultra. The back, meanwhile, is reinforced with the regular Gorilla Glass. Compared to other S24 phones, the Ultra also has an additional Titanium frame that withstands heavier impacts, delivers more grip with a semi-matte satin finish, and simply looks more sleek with a tactile feel. Display: S-Pen Is Welcome Furnished with a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display of 6.8 inches with about 88.5% screen-to-body ratio, the S24 Ultra's nearly bezel-less flatscreen design brings 1,440 x 3,120 pixels of resolution with roughly 505 ppi and an adaptive refresh rate that can go from 1 Hz up to 120 Hz. The max peak brightness of 2600 nits with HDR10+ content and its excellent reflection handling make it an excellent choice for alfresco adventurers and day-time city dwellers, limiting distractions of sunlight. Besides the usual always-on feature, what pushes it above other smartphone screens is its arrival with an S-Pen stylus and support for S-Pen Pro or S-Pen Creator Edition, which isn't possible on the base S24. Thanks to this, note-taking and artwork creation have become much easier than before. Air Commands are also possible with it, giving more menu navigation and action options such as remote and hands-free photo taking. Performance: Snapdragon Unleashed The S24 Ultra's most significant hardware upgrade under the hood is the 4-nanometre, 8-core Qualcomm SM8650-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Normally, the US and Canadian versions of the phone across the entire S24 line have this chip, but the Ultra is the only one that has it in the UK models, leaving the rest, including the S24+, at the mercy of Samsung's proprietary Exynos 2400. The phone is outfitted with 12 GB of RAM right out of the gate delivering better multitasking capabilities for all users. You have the choice to begin with a generous 256 GB of storage, with the option to scale up to a capacious 512 GB or a whopping 1 TB, which is an exclusive option only for this top-end model. Every unit is embedded with UFS 4.0 technology. Camera and Battery Life The photographic capabilities of the S24 Ultra aren't that different from its predecessor, but there are some additions that some may appreciate. Those with trypophobia should brace themselves as cameras consist of a total of four rear lenses and one front shooter. The highlight one is the 200 MP, f/1.7, 24mm wide-angle lens with multi-directional PDAF, Laser AF, and OIS. then we have the 50 MP, f/3.4, 111mm periscope telephoto lens that has PDAF, OIS, and 5x optical zoom support, creating what is called a Quad Telephoto Array for clearer close-up shots from a distance. Moving on to the 10 MP one, it is an f/2.4, 67mm telephoto lens with Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS, and 3x optical zoom. And finally, we have the 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm, and 120˚ ultrawide lens with Dual Pixel PDAF support and can shoot Super Steady video. The front is a 12 MP, f/2.2, 26mm wide angle lens, also supporting Dual Pixel PDAF. Overall, the cameras perform marginally better than the S23 Ultra, but still, it produces relatively pristine shots with naturalistic bokeh and impressive zoom levels but some sketchy HDR colours in a variety of lighting conditions, bringing it a tad closer to the actual king of image processing: The Google Pixel 8 Pro. The rear module's video recording specifications are as follows: 8K@24/30 FPS, 4K@30/60/120 FPS, 1080p@30/60/240 FPS, and 1080p@960 FPS, which is the super slow-mo mode. Additional video features include HDR10+, stereo sound recording, and gyro-EIS. The selfie camera, on the other hand, offers 4K@30/60 FPS, and 1080p@30 FPS. This means all lenses of the phone are capable of shooting video at 4K@60 FPS for an exceptionally versatile experience.
