Silent Stepping AF Motor The lens features a lead screw-type stepping motor (STM) that provides smooth, silent and precise autofocus without any mechanical noise, which is especially handy for capturing videos with quiet dialogue or nature scenes. Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) An improved optical image stabilisation (OIS) system allows the lens to compensate for up to 4-stops of camera shake to ensure sharper images when shooting handheld, particularly in low-lighting conditions. Using the built-in OIS you can shoot still subjects needing a tripod, and capture sharp images without increasing the ISO.
